Welcome Robin Ruthenborg to EHSO

Welcome Robin Ruthenborg!

Please welcome Robin Ruthenborg to the EHSO Research Safety team as an EHS Professional III.

Robin received a B.S. in Molecular Biology in 2013 and an M.S. in Biotechnology in 2014 from The University of Texas at Dallas.

Prior to returning to school and earning her graduate degree, she worked for a fiber optic cable manufacturing company for 16 years in various roles including Quality Assurance Manager and Internal Auditor. In these roles, she was responsible for analyzing audit findings, identifying areas needing improvement, and recommending problem-solving suggestions for corrective action.

During her time in the lab, her research primarily focused on identifying metabolic differences between NSCLC adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. She worked as a Laboratory Technician and Lab Manager before beginning a career in research biosafety. As a Safety Specialist with UTD’s Office of Research Compliance Laboratory Safety team, she conducted lab hazard assessments, laboratory safety inspections, and training for laboratory personnel. Robin chose a career in research laboratory safety because she enjoys the collaborative environment of the university research community and appreciates the work–life balance afforded to academic EH&S professionals. She is excited to join the Emory Research Safety Team and looks forward to expanding her knowledge.

Outside of the lab, Robin’s activities revolve around her family and pets. When the weather cooperates, she and her family thoroughly enjoy hiking, camping, and exploring the outdoors. She would like to say that she’s “crafty,” but rarely has time to indulge in the hobby. Robin enjoys cooking and baking and often bring treats to the office so she’s not tempted to eat them all (her husband, Brad, is not a huge fan of sweets). She enjoys watching football and loves going to baseball games; her favorite teams are the Denver Broncos and the Texas Rangers. On the weekends, she almost always has a Rangers ball cap on.
