Effort Reporting
Effort reporting at Emory ensures that salary charges to federally sponsored projects accurately reflect actual work performed. Certification is required semi-annually via the Effort Reporting System (ERS). Reports must be pre-reviewed by a department representative and certified by someone with direct knowledge of the work.
Escalation Process:
If effort reports are not certified on time, the escalation process involves:
- Departmental follow-up with the certifier.
- Notification to the PI and department leadership.
- Potential audit risk and financial penalties for continued non-compliance
Policy 7.29 – Billing Coverage for Uninsured or Injured Research Subjects
Emory’s Policy 7.29 ensures that uninsured research participants who are injured during study participation receive appropriate medical care without financial burden. The policy outlines procedures for billing coverage and reinforces Emory’s commitment to ethical research practices
Embryonic Stem Cell Research Oversight (Policy 7.81)
This policy governs research involving Human Embryonic Stem Cells (hESCs) and Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs).
Key points include:
- Research must comply with NIH guidelines and any additional requirements from the cell source or sponsor.
- Oversight is provided by the Embryonic Stem Cell Research Oversight (ESCRO) Committee, which reviews projects when required by sponsors or upon investigator request.
Projects involving human subjects must also be reviewed by the IRB, and other relevant committees (e.g., IACUC, Radiation Safety)
