Supporting Emory research teams to find funding, build collaborations, and win awards

From ideation to sharing impact, the Office of Research Development (ORD) is here to support Emory’s research faculty. ORD brings together the expertise, tools, and hands‑on support that make proposals stronger and partnerships easier. Below is a brief overview of the research development services you can tap into today through ORD’s Support & Programming portfolio.

Find the right funding—faster

  • GrantForward @ Emory. Search a continually updated database of opportunities from 30,000+ sponsors. Access to this service is provided for the Emory community through the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research.
  • Halo industry partnering. Explore private industry-issued R&D calls and connect directly with corporate sponsors seeking academic collaborators—ideal for researchers interested in translational projects and industry-defined problems. ORD is proud to partner with the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations on these opportunities.
  • Strategically Aligned Research. Find a curated list of active funding opportunities aligned to Emory’s strategic themes so you don’t miss high‑leverage programs in your field.

Tap internal resources to propel your research forward

  • Internal Funding. ORD curates and maintains a university-wide list of seed funds and other internal mechanisms—your starting point for early-stage or research pivot support.
    • University Research Committee (URC). The oldest internal grant program in the nation, URC is a competitive, annual research grant program that promotes rigorous and innovative scholarship across all academic disciplines.
  • Limited Submissions. Get visibility and guidance for competitions that restrict the number of institutional proposals, including process details and timeframes through Emory’s InfoReady instance.

Build your network

  • Constructive Collisions. Work with the ORD team on targeted networking, lightning talks, and other matchmaking formats designed to spark cross‑disciplinary collaborations and identify new partners—both inside and outside of Emory.
  • Emory Research Development Community. Professional staff members can connect with peers across campus who practice research development across schools and centers to exchange best practices, resources, and insights.
  • Emory Managing Director Community. Institutional staff members who serve as center directors (and the like!) are invited to network with their colleagues through this once a semester, in-person educational and networking event series.

Make proposals stronger and more competitive

  • Proposal Development Support. Whether your team is undertaking a $10M+ mega grant or you are seeking 1:1 support through ORD’s pilot program, PURSUE, ORD can help you with your proposal development efforts across sponsors and mechanisms.
    • PURSUE 1:1 Proposal Development Support. Engage directly with ORD for individualized coaching on framing, readiness, and competitiveness.
    • Comprehensive Proposal Development (mega‑grants). For complex, multi‑unit proposals ($10M+), ORD provides full-level engagement via project management best practices, including narrative development support, review coordination, and executive communication.
  • Competitive Intelligence. Through your Associate Dean for Research, request ethical, forward‑looking analyses of sponsors and programs to sharpen your strategy and positioning.

Advance training grants with expert help

  • Training Grant Support Office (TGSO). Faculty can partner with specialists dedicated to strengthening Emory’s training grant portfolio.
    • Comprehensive Proposal Development. TGSO provides expert guidance on every stage of the proposal process—from program conceptualization, data table preparation, and timeline management— so faculty can focus on the science and training vision.
    • Strategic Positioning. Work with the TGSO to identify growth opportunities, align proposals with Emory’s research strengths, and highlight the unique value of your training environment.
    • Post-award Insights. Access guidance on trainee appointment processes, reporting expectations, and best practices for sustaining and growing Emory’s training grant portfolio.
