Professors Wei Wu and Jiaying Lu Awarded Seed Grant for AI and Human Values Research”

December 2024-

Professor Wei Wu (Emory Department of Religion) and Professor Jiaying Lu (Emory Nursing School’s Center for Data Science) have been awarded a seed grant from the Atlanta Interdisciplinary Artificial Intelligence Network for their project at the intersection of AI and human values. This grant supports collaborative research in Atlanta that explores the intersection of AI and the humanities. Their project, “Understanding Generative AI’s Impact on Users from Various Religious Backgrounds,” investigates how generative AI systems influence users with diverse religious perspectives, highlighting potential biases and values embedded in AI interactions. By focusing on Atlanta’s diverse population, the research aims to inform the development of more inclusive and culturally sensitive AI models, promoting fairness in digital systems. The project also aims to bridge AI and the humanities by organizing a seminar and conducting survey-based research, contributing to ethical AI design and a deeper understanding of AI’s societal impact.
