Dr. Geshe Lobsang Negi received the 2025 Karen Armstrong Humanitarian Award

The Charter for Compassion is honored to present Dr. Lobsang Tenzin Negi with the 2025 Karen Armstrong Humanitarian Award, recognizing his lifelong dedication to cultivating compassion in service to all beings.

Dr. Negi, a scholar, educator, and contemplative practitioner, bridges ancient Tibetan wisdom with modern science. Born in the Himalayan region of Kinnaur, he earned the highest academic degree in Tibetan Buddhism, the Geshe Lharampa, and now serves as Professor of Practice in Religion at Emory University and Executive Director of the Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Ethics.

Dr. Negi teaches that compassion is essential for human survival a warm-hearted connection with other friends, strangers, or even enemies form the foundation of meaningful, ethical living. His work inspires individuals and communities to transform compassion from an ideal into tangible action.
