Services offered by the Scholarly Communications Office:
The Emory Libraries Scholarly Communications Office serves the faculty, students and staff of Emory by assisting with copyright and scholarly communication issues and promoting Open Access. The Scholarly Communications Office offers a variety of services, including assistance with author agreements and book contracts, copyright questions, open access publication, and permissions. - Author Agreements & Book Contracts: Assistance with author agreements, including ensuring compliance with the NIH Public Access Policy for peer-reviewed articles resulting from NIH grant funded research.
- Copyright Questions: Assistance with questions on a variety of copyright issues, including fair use, classroom guidelines, and how to obtain permissions for scholarly publications, including identifying copyright holders.
- Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs): An open access repository of Emory student theses and dissertations, which makes student work freely available to the world. The Scholarly Communications Office provides coordination of the ETD program and consultations around copyright issues pertaining to theses and dissertations, such as permissions and using previously copyrighted materials.
- Emory Open Education Initiative (EOEI): A mini-grant program that encourages faculty and instructors to create and use open educational resources (OERs) and library materials to support student learning in their courses.
- OpenEmory: A service of the Emory Libraries to make faculty articles openly accessible to the world. Please contact us to review a CV or list of journal articles for inclusion in OpenEmory.
- Open Access Publishing Fund: On September 1, 2012, Emory University Libraries launched an Open Access Publishing Fund to provide funds for Emory authors to publish in eligible open access (OA) journals and books when no alternative funding is available. Faculty and currently enrolled students are all eligible to apply for funds as long as they meet the eligibility criteria. The OA Publishing Fund also can be used to cover costs associated with making the data underlying publications openly available. - Office Hours: In addition to consultation via email and telephone, the Scholarly Communications Office hosts Office Hours during the Fall & Spring semester in the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship on the 3rd floor of Woodruff Library for questions on copyright, academic publishing, authors rights, and open access.
