Truths Versus Common Perceptions

Bambino’s story reminds me if the extreme lack of participation global citizens take in order to work towards remedying situations such as this one. There is a common perception that exists within western society that all those who overcome The Crossing are granted asylum and refugee status- and this perception is regenerated each day by the media who does not (or cannot) report upon the truth and injustice that truly takes place. I hope that articles, such as this one written about Bambino, will grow in size until it cannot be ignored anymore by the common man. I truly believe we must come together to fight against injustices like these in order to build a better future for all generations to come- specifically in areas of the world where hell is a daily encounter.

Bambino’s story is crippling to read and takes my breath away each time I think about how this child’s life is being stolen away second by second, and there is nothing he can do about it due to the simple fact of his birthplace. I often talk to people in my community about this harsh double standard, and I speak to the unfairness it represents. A common push back that I encounter is: “but life is unfair, so why should this instance be any different?” It’s hard to change the minds of people who think like this, however it gives me hope to believe that with the work that Dr. Alexander and Nikolaj Bendix Skyum Larsen do, we as a global community can move past opinions like this and begin finding solutions to the migrant crisis.
