Barbara Ladd is Professor of English at Emory University where she specializes in the literature of the American South. Her books are Nationalism and the Color Line in George W. Cable, Mark Twain, and William Faulkner; Resisting History: Gender, Modernity, and Authorship in William Faulkner, Zora Neale Hurston, and Eudora Welty; and The Oxford Handbook of the Literature of the U.S. South. She has published in American Literature, PMLA, Faulkner Journal, Mississippi Quarterly, and elsewhere. Professor Ladd received her Ph.D from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an M.A. from the University of Texas, and an M.F.A. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her B.A. is from UNC-Chapel Hill.
