Michael H. Chung, MD, PhD, MPH, FRCP is a Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases of the Department of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine and holds a joint appointment as Professor of Epidemiology and Professor of Global Health at Rollins School of Public Health in Atlanta, USA. He is also an Affiliate Professor in the Department of Global Health at the University of Washington in Seattle, USA. Dr. Chung was based overseas for nearly 20 years implementing global health programs in Africa and Southeast Asia. He spent a number of years living in Nairobi, Kenya where he co-founded the Coptic Hope Center for Infectious Diseases and chaired the Department of Medicine at Aga Khan University East Africa, as well as Hanoi, Vietnam where he taught at Bach Mai Hospital and Hanoi Medical University.

He received his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and Master in Public Health (MPH) degree from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 1998 and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from Ghent University in 2021. Prof. Chung trained in Internal Medicine at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), a Harvard Medical School Teaching Hospital, and completed a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of Washington in 2005. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases with the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (FRCP).
