{"id":970,"date":"2019-07-31T18:39:11","date_gmt":"2019-07-31T22:39:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/whscl-news\/?p=970"},"modified":"2019-07-31T18:39:11","modified_gmt":"2019-07-31T22:39:11","slug":"nih-to-require-orcid-ids-in-fy2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/whscl-news\/?p=970","title":{"rendered":"NIH to Require ORCID iDs in FY2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The NIH, CDC, and AHRQ recently announced that beginning in FY2020,\u00a0 ORCID iDs (Open Researcher and Contributor Identifiers) will be required for individuals supported by agency research training, fellowship, research education, and career development awards (<a href=\"https:\/\/grants.nih.gov\/grants\/guide\/notice-files\/NOT-OD-19-109.html\">https:\/\/grants.nih.gov\/grants\/guide\/notice-files\/NOT-OD-19-109.html<\/a>).\u00a0 An ORCID iD is a unique digital identifier for an individual that can be used to associate a person with his\/her scholarly efforts and achievements over time and across name variations and\/or institutional positions and affiliations.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, beginning in October 2019, individuals supported by institutional NIH training, education, and career development grants (T-series, K12, and R25, R38, RL5 and RL9 grants) will be required to have an ORCID identifier.\u00a0 Applicants for individual NIH training and education awards (F-series and the remaining K-series grants) will be required to include their ORCID iD beginning in January 2020.\u00a0 ORCID iDs must be linked to the eRA Commons Personal Profile.<\/p>\n<p>Users without an ORCID iD can sign up for the free identifier on the ORCID website at <a href=\"https:\/\/orcid.org\/\">https:\/\/orcid.org\/<\/a> using their Emory single-sign on.\u00a0From the ORCID homepage, select \u201cSign in\u201d and then \u201cInstitution Account\u201d to create and link your ORCID iD.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-974 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/whscl-news\/files\/2019\/07\/ORCIDlogin-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"522\" height=\"316\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/whscl-news\/files\/2019\/07\/ORCIDlogin-1.png 522w, https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/whscl-news\/files\/2019\/07\/ORCIDlogin-1-300x182.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 522px) 100vw, 522px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Users that already have an ORCID iD may link it to their eRA Commons Account from the Personal Profile page.\u00a0 Click the \u201cCreate or Connect your ORCID iD\u201d on the left hand side.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-972 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/whscl-news\/files\/2019\/07\/ORCIDeRA.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"191\" height=\"241\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/whscl-news\/files\/2019\/07\/ORCIDeRA.png 366w, https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/whscl-news\/files\/2019\/07\/ORCIDeRA-238x300.png 238w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 191px) 100vw, 191px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For additional instructions linking an ORCID iD to an eRA Commons account, visit the Help website at: <a href=\"https:\/\/era.nih.gov\/erahelp\/ppf\/default.htm#PPF_Help\/8_2_orcid.htm%3FTocPath%3D_____13\">https:\/\/era.nih.gov\/erahelp\/ppf\/default.htm#PPF_Help\/8_2_orcid.htm%3FTocPath%3D_____13<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>ORCID iDs must be created and maintained by the individual in question, and cannot be administered by a delegate or support team.
