As of January 2, 2026, Woodruff Library will reduce book retrieval services from Woodruff Stacks.
We will no longer retrieve and place on hold physical books listed as available (on the shelf) in the Woodruff Library stacks, except for delivery to the Oxford Library or as a disability accommodation.
Like the entire campus, the library is facing some budget challenges and has lost several staff positions in our Stack team, the group responsible for retrieving available (on-shelf) materials for library users from the Woodruff Stacks. By stopping this service, the group can better focus on core services like providing timely access to new titles, re-shelving returned items, and sending materials to the library service center (LSC).
We want to emphasize sunsetting this one service does NOT change any of these other library services:
-
- Disability accommodations
- Requests for items from the Library Service Center and other campus libraries, including Oxford Library
- Requests for media items (e.g. audio CD, DVDs, etc.)
-
Lockers as a pick-up location for eligible items, such as items from LSC, Oxford, etc.
-
Requests for scans from library-owned physical Items by clicking on the Request Article or Chapter link
- Proxy privilege set-up; proxies can retrieve on-shelf books on another person’s behalf
- Requests for materials at other (non-Woodruff) libraries will continue to be processed as normal, by the staffs of those libraries
