During\u00a0the program, students will\u00a0learn about\u00a0the processing, arrangement, and description of archival collections, as well as how to read a finding aid, locate archival repositories and collections, and more. Sessions are taught by Rose Manuscript, Archives, &amp; Rare Book Library (MARBL) archivists and Woodruff librarians.<\/p>\n<p><em>Using the Unique<\/em> Archives Research Program workshops are held twice a year, during the Summer and Fall semesters. This summer&#8217;s intensive workshop will take place on two non-consecutive days, <strong>Monday, May 16 from 9:00 a.m. &#8211; 4:00 p.m. <\/strong>and<strong> Friday, May 20, from 9:00 a.m. &#8211; 1:00\u00a0p.m<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The program is able to accommodate 10-15 student participants.<a href=\"https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/woodruff\/files\/2014\/09\/Screen-Shot-2014-09-11-at-11_opt.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5896\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5896 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/woodruff\/files\/2014\/09\/Screen-Shot-2014-09-11-at-11_opt.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2014-09-11 at 11_opt\" width=\"246\" height=\"312\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/woodruff\/files\/2014\/09\/Screen-Shot-2014-09-11-at-11_opt.png 400w, https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/woodruff\/files\/2014\/09\/Screen-Shot-2014-09-11-at-11_opt-236x300.png 236w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 246px) 100vw, 246px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In addition to valuable training, Archives Research Program students who successfully complete the program will receive a letter for their dossiers.<\/p>\n<p>This is the sixth\u00a0year that Archives Research Program (ARP)\u00a0training has been offered at Emory. Emory&#8217;s ARP takes a practical approach, training students to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Understand the processing, arrangement, and description of archival collections<\/li>\n<li>Read a finding aid<\/li>\n<li>Locate archival repositories and collections<\/li>\n<li>Handle archives and rare books properly<\/li>\n<li>Prepare for visits to archives<\/li>\n<li>Become aware of technology and tools to save time and promote productivity in the archives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Archives Research Program is a collaborative initiative of the Robert W. Woodruff Library, the Rose Manuscript, Archives, &amp; Rare Book Library (MARBL), and the Laney Graduate School. The ARP&#8217;s\u00a0primary goal is to equip students with the basic skills necessary to begin archival research. The ARP also strives to build an interdisciplinary learning community among participating graduate students through intensive training related to finding archives, planning for research, and practicing proper stewardship of rare materials.<\/p>\n<p>See the <a href=\"http:\/\/web.library.emory.edu\/research-learning\/award-research-programs\/arp-application.html\">online application<\/a> for further details.
