Arielle Shelby

Arielle Shelby is a first-year PhD student in the Wuest lab. Originally from Detroit, MI, she moved to Arkansas as a child, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Hendrix College. During her time there, she conducted research at the remote Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA; where, under the guidance of Dr. Anita Mattson, she practiced methods of asymmetric catalysis to enantioselctively alkynylate quinolone compounds. After completing undergrad, she moved to Atlanta, GA to start her PhD in organic chemistry at Emory. As a new member in the Wuest lab, Arielle’s interests lie mostly in the total synthesis of antimicrobial natural products as well as their analogs. In her free time, Arielle likes to write, paint, and be out in nature.
