Description: After taking the Fact on Aging Quiz I was disappointed about my misconception of the older population. This collage of words shows how my views have changed within just a few short weeks towards older adults. The black, negative, and diminishing words on the outside of the circle describes how older adults are perceived by the majority of society, including myself until just a few short weeks ago. The inside of the circle is full of words that describe how my view shifted; these are more positive, bright, and humanistic descriptors rather than superficial stereotypes. The outside circle shows that due to societal influences, negative descriptors come to mind when thinking of how to describe older adults; therefore, it is our job as health care professionals to begin to shape a new societal view of the older population, and this starts with reflecting and shifting our own implicit biases.
