Biography:

Dr. Elizabeth Whitaker obtained a Ph.D. in Anthropology in 1995 with a culmination of their work in “The Medicalization of Maternity in Italy: Fascism and Breastfeeding in an Apennine  Community”. Dr. Whitaker’s research focuses on the intersection of health and society, specifically in infant feeding, aging, and nutritional deficiencies and diseases. She has published mutliple books regarding these topics such as “Measuring Mamma’s Mils: Fascism and the Medicalization of Maternity in Italy” and “An Analysis of Betty Friedan’s the Feminine Mystique” As an independent researcher, medical anthropology scholar, and college professor, Dr. Whitaker has worked in multiple universities in the United States and Italy. Additionally, she volunteers in language education, translation, and interpretation between English and Italian.
