Biography:
Dr. Katherine Hirschfeld holds a BA in Anthropology from University of Amherst followed by a MA in Anthropology at Emory University. She is a medical anthropologist who has published on the Cuban health care system, most recently publishing a book titled, “Gangster-States: Organized Crime, Kleptocracy and Political Collapse”. Dr. Hirschfeld dissertation is titled “Socialism, Health, and Medicine in Cuba: A Critical Reanalysis.” She has received a number awards including the University of Oklahoma Faculty Senate Research Award and Association of Women in Science Award. Ethnographic field research includes Havana and Santiago, Cuba, and Ecuador.
