Spain
The Universitat de Girona and the Universidad Pablo de Olavide, in collaboration with Emory, worked across two regions in Spain to determine the feasibility of implementing SEE Learning in the advisory context. This work was supported by Instituto para la education emocional, etica y social (IE3S) (ie3s.org). This organization supports SEE Learning implementation and research in Spain. About 200 students participated in these quasi-experimental studies of preliminary feasibility.
Global Implementation Study – Gerona, Spain – Catalonia
Eulalia Guiu Puget from the University of Girona, has been working with secondary schools to understand the cultural validation and implementation of SEE Learning in Catalonia, Spain. The ongoing project focuses on integrating compassion-based learning into the school curriculum to foster holistic student development.

Global Implementation Study – Seville, Spain – Andalusia
María Amapola Povedano Díaz, from the Universidad Pablo de Olavide in Seville, Spain, and her team have been collaborating with Emory University on the cultural validation of SEE Learning in southern Spain. Their research, supported by Emory University, aims to validate and refine the SEE Learning curriculum through qualitative and quantitative analyses.
Research Timeline:
- Phase 1 (July 2021 – July 2022): Qualitative analysis through focus groups with teachers trained in SEE Learning.
- Phase 2 (July 2022 – September 2023): Quantitative study in late elementary students.
- Current Work: Finalizing a publication based on research findings and developing a case study in Velez Malag
