Air Pollution
Multi- and Single-State Air Quality and Morbidity
The purpose of this study is to clarify the impacts of environmental exposures on acute severe morbidity in urban and rural regions across the U.S. using novel exposure characterization metrics.
Environmental and Health Benefits of Mobile Source and Electricity Generating Unit Policies to Reduce Particulate Pollution
The purpose of this study is to examine the potential changes in PM2.5 toxicity resulting from implementation of air quality policies at both the national and regional/local level.
Climate and Health
Heat and Acute Kidney Injury
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between heat (outdoor high temperatures and heat waves) and presentations of acute kidney injury (AKI) at emergency departments in Atlanta, GA. With a focus on improved AKI case ascertainment, heat exposure assessment, and identification of heat-vulnerable populations, this work will fill major gaps in the epidemiology of heat and AKI that will ultimately support public health prevention and clinical case management.
Dust Storms and Emergency Department Visits in Four Southwestern U.S. States
In this project, we will characterize dust storms exposures using a number of different approaches and data sources.
Wildfires and Cardiovascular Health Outcomes
This project will investigate the impacts of wildfires on cardiovascular health in a variety of western states.
Pollen and Asthma
The purpose of this study is to examine the association between pollen types and asthma emergency department visits.
Modification of temperature-morbidity associations by social determinants of health: the use of Z-coding
The purpose of this study is to investigate potential risk factors for temperature-related morbidity.
Neighborhood-Scale Extreme Humid Heat Health Impacts
This project will build capacity for identifying projected heat risk in urban regions that could be used for mitigating morbidity and mortality due to extreme humid heat under climate change.
Other Health Studies
Diabetic Foot Ulcer and Transportation
The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact that access to transportation has on diabetic foot ulcers.
