Emory Film and Media Alum Kheyal Roy-Meighoo (23C) has received the Ray Harryhausen Award — Best Student Film Animation for her undergraduate Honors thesis, “Provisions”.
The short is “a semi-autobiographical stop-motion film that follows K, a young Trinidadian-American woman who lives on her own. As K prepares provision soup, a traditional soup created by enslaved laborers on the sugar plantations in Trinidad, she calls her grandmother for advice on how to make the dish. The conversation between K and her grandmother evolves into a conversation about community and how it feels to be a child of the diaspora.”
