Discussion Post Week 4

I’ve really enjoyed the 3D projects and resources that allow viewers to be transported into the places you are highlighting. In particular, I took interest in the Envisioning Baroque Rome project and the use of Falda’s map to set context for various works. The immersive nature was extremely engaging and informative. I love the idea of taking viewers on a geographical journey through Baroque art. Since we are focusing on the period’s global influences, using maps helps cement these concepts and gives a clear visual picture of what you are trying to convey. Because of this, I am thinking about using OpenTour as the basis for my digital humanities project. The platform seems fairly straightforward and would allow me to anchor the sites I discuss and allow me to compare them to modern day.

I know I want to focus on architecture, possibly illustrating a few key trends that began in Europe and then tracing the way they were implemented worldwide. This will involve reading many primary sources to be able to understand how Baroque architecture spread globally. I plan on using Redux to annotate and organize these sources. Since I’m not sure what areas of the world I want to focus on, I need to identify what European trends I want to examine then go from there.
