OHS is a multidisciplinary team that provides surveillance programs in accordance with OSHA standards and other regulatory agencies based on the occupational risk of each staff member, as well as occupational injury management, treatment, case management and rehabilitation services for a safe return to work.
In 2021, OHS and the EHSO formed a joint Taskforce to identify opportunities to better serve Emory University’s employees by enhancing OSHA surveillance programs and implementing new standards.
Dr. Javier Valle, MD, MPH has been serving as Medical Director for OHS since January 2023 and provides clinical oversight of OHS’ nine clinics in the Emory Healthcare hospitals. Each clinic is staffed by medical assistants, nurses, Advanced Practice Providers (APP’s) and support staff; Physical therapy services are currently available at Emory Midtown and Emory University. Our most recent OHS location is at 1599 Clifton Rd. This location became available in April 2023 and Lex Parker, RN is the point of contact at this location. Lex joined OHS in the same month and has done an outstanding job engaging staff from Campus Services, D.A.R., E.P.C., Facilities Management and Public Safety, which in turn has increased compliance of the Surveillance programs.
In February 2024, OHS launched an Annual Occupational Health Assessment that will be deployed to all employees of Emory University to survey for occupational risk and ensure that the staff identified are being followed-up by our team with additional questionnaires, educational information or clinical exams. The Annual Occupational Health Assessment will be available in the month of the employee’s hiring anniversary and it will be accessible in H.O.M.E. (Emory’s brand for the OHS’ electronic medical record system). Employees will receive a welcome email from H.O.M.E. and provide instructions to complete the questionnaire.
