Dr. Philip Garza, a glaucoma/cataract surgeon and clinician-scientist in Atlanta, GA, seeks applicants for a 1-to-2 year immersive pre-medical or pre-optometric clinical and research fellowship. Ideal candidates are college graduates (or soon-to-be college graduates) who seek in-depth experience in the practice of ophthalmology in a fast-paced, dynamic clinical setting prior to applying to medical school or optometry school.

Fellows will be involved in all aspects of Dr. Garza’s practice, both clinical and surgical, at a level appropriate for their skill and knowledge level, supplementing an experienced clinical and administrative staff.In addition, fellows will assist Dr. Garza in clinical research development, data collection and analysis, and publication, with the opportunity to interact with industry sponsors. It is anticipated that the fellowship will culminate in at least one first-author publication and inperson presentation of findings at a national ophthalmology conference. Fellows will gain knowledge and skills directly relevant to the future practice of ophthalmology, optometry, or medicine in general, and they will benefit from Dr. Garza’s direct support and mentorship throughout the medical or optometry school application process. Work hours are full-time but flexible and can be customized to accommodate any necessary “pre-med” classes. The Fellowship is an hourly position with typical employment benefits including health insurance. Dr. Garza practices throughout Metropolitan Atlanta, a vibrant, dynamic region with abundant options for cultural enrichment, culinary exploration, and recreation.
