Ten Week Program – May 24 – July 31, 2026

| Program Description: The UMass Chan Medical School (UMass Chan) Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) is a non-credit, ten-week, structured research experience. The program consists of “hands-on” laboratory research with an investigator serving as a mentor, role model, and advisor. Goals: The program is designed to provide participants with in-depth exposure to biomedical research. Participants will develop career-building connections with faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and peers. The program encourages participants to consider biomedical research as a viable career choice. Why should I apply? Immersive experience preforming cutting edge research in a broad range of topic areas including Cancer Biology, Immunology & Infectious Disease, Neuroscience, and Bioinformatics. Summer Research Fellows receive a $6,000 stipend. Travel to Massachusetts is provided by the program. Housing and transportation are provided by the program. Participants engage in networking sessions with UMass Chan leaders, faculty, and trainees. Participants prepare and present a professional research poster. The poster may be subsequently presented at national scientific conferences |

The Georgia Human Rights Clinic and Emory’s chapter of Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) are excited to invite students from across the country to submit abstracts for the 2026 PHR National Student Conference, which will be hosted at Emory University School of Medicine on April 17–18, 2026.
This national conference brings together students interested in the intersections of health, human rights, medicine, law, and advocacy to share research, engage in meaningful dialogue, and connect with peers and professionals dedicated to advancing human rights through health‑based approaches.
Abstract submissions are currently being accepted and will remain open until:

Students are encouraged to submit original work related to human rights, medical ethics, health equity, forensic documentation, refugee and asylum health, or related interdisciplinary topics.
