REU Site: Mind, Brain, Body, and Behavior Provides Opportunity Beyond Emory’s Campus

This past summer, REU Site: MB3 welcomed its inagural cohort of undergraduates to Emory. Participants were flown in from across the country to learn on our campus. This summer session provided them with invaluable access to mentors, space and the freedom to pursue research interests with support from faculty and graduate students in the Department of Psychology. While they continue on in this year-long research experience preparing for presentations and graduate school applications, we were so excited to hear directly from the students themselves about the transformative nature of this unique opportunity.

Naomi Mwangi, UMass Dartmouth ’25 spoke with her alma mater about the impact scholarships, and financial and academic support had on her experience. Here at Emory with MB3, she started a project working with the BUILD Lab and Dr. Patricia Brenann, researching the external factors that influence internalizing behaviors in Black children. See what she had to say about her experience here.

REU Site: MB3 serves to provide undergraduates from communities often underrepresented in the field of Psychology an opportunity with the support and research experience to further their education in graduate school and beyond. Applications to join the 2025 cohort next spring are open now and close December 1, 2024.
