Dr. James Rilling partners with Dr. Ken Hepburn on newly-funded research into cognitive empathy training for dementia caregivers

In our department James Rilling is a professor and lab director, but he has also been making interdisciplinary strides as he collaborates with Ken Hepburn of the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing to study ways in which they can increase cognitive empathy between those who care for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, and those who rely on them. The National Institute of Aging has awarded two Emory University researchers a competitive $3.5 million RO1 grant to further these innovations.

Dr. Rilling brings insight as a cognitive neuroscientist, and Dr. Hepburn brings a deep understanding of aging and caregiving, and together their work could have wide-reaching implications for the future of our elderly and their caretakers.
