Journal 11 – Jackson Schneider

As someone who really loves film, I really enjoyed revisiting Paris is Burning for this course. If I were in charge of creating a new syllabus for the next time this course is taught, I would probably add what is probably my favorite movie of all time, Persona (1966). It is Ingmar Bergman’s most significant work and deals with themes of queer desire among a lot of others. It is an amazing way of showcasing metaphor as something that can be visual, and that human language is sometimes a limiting construct through which we attempt to convey ideas that are too nebulous for words. Plus, the film is so open to interpretation that everyone in class could leave with their own unique idea about what it means.
