Reading Journal 10 – Dasia Hall

I have chosen the key-word ‘homosexuality and the DMS’.

DEFINITION: I think the definition of ‘homosexuality’ and its considerations as a disease has changed quite a bit over time as seen through different versions of the DSM and other medical discourse.

PURPOSE: I intend to create a series of tiktoks. Some of the generic conventions of this format are short videos, casual language, and audio over videos.

CONTENT: I intend to talk about the different DSM defintions of homosexuality and situate them within the appropriate historical contexts. I also want to elaborate on modern medical discourse about homosexuality.

COURSE THEMATIC: I think that my key concept intersects/overlaps with the class theme of reading because I am essentially going to be analyzing how medical discourses have “read” homosexuality over the course of a few decades.

QUESTIONS: For now, I don’t have any questions!

SOURCES: I have decided to use the following five sources because they provide a comprehensive history of homosexuality and the DSM. They also represent medical discourse about homosexuality which I think is important to discuss for my project.
