Reading Journal- Prompt 11

Although we already read Judith Butler’s piece “Gender is Burning” and its revelations to how gender performativity can be seen through drag. I think reading something from Judith Butler’s book “Gender Trouble: would be extremely helpful. In the book, Butler introduces the entire concept of gender performativity and argues that gender is not an inherent characteristic, but rather a set of behaviors and expectations that are imposed upon individuals by society. Furthermore, this reading would focus less on the film Paris is Burning, and how it showcases parodying dominant gender norms. Instead, it would provide more context about the subject as a whole. This is something that we’ve discussed in the course but, it would be a deeper dive into the concept from the same author.
