September WHSCAB Star

I’m excited to announce our WHSCAB Star for this month – Kelly Ferguson, senior pre-award specialist in Research Administration Services! Kelly was nominated by Kathleen Bienkowski, and the nomination reads:

“One of the most important initiatives that this university has undertaken over the last several years is the implementation of Research Administration Service (RAS) units.  In order for these units to function successfully, they need to be staffed with highly qualified individuals who are able to excel under pressure and lead others in an environment of change.   In the absence of several key staff members in the Cancer & Imaging Research Administration Services unit, Kelly has willingly assumed a leadership role for the pre-award team.  She has gone above and beyond to serve faculty in Hematology and Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Radiology & Imaging Sciences, and the Winship Cancer Institute to ensure that their proposals are routed on time and are in compliance with sponsor guidelines.  She has served as a mentor to junior staff on the pre-award team, serving as an invaluable teaching resource within the unit.    She also recognizes issues very early on and quickly identifies creative solutions to address issues.   Her organizational skills are exceptional, and she fully utilizes those skills to successfully manage her deadlines/priorities and those of the team.   In addition, she is extremely accessible regardless of day or time and is fully invested in and committed to her role in the RAS.   Strong leadership is a necessity to making any operation successful and Kelly’s abilities as a leader are very much appreciated by all of the stakeholders at Emory who are invested in the success of the RAS.”

Congratulations, Kelly! You are truly a WHSCAB Star.

Thanks to everyone who nominated a co-worker for recognition. All the nominations submitted so far will remain in the running for next month as well. Our next WHSCAB Star will be announced in early October, so please get your nominations in by the end of this month.
