Call For 2015 Jefferson Award Nominations

A message from Nadine Kaslow, Professor and Vice Chair, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences:

Dear Colleagues:

The Thomas Jefferson Award, presented each year at the commencement ceremony, provides the Emory University community the opportunity to honor a current member of the faculty or staff whose distinguished leadership, dedicated service, and personal activities have made a major, and potentially enduring, contribution to the Emory community.  As indicated by the original donor, the Robert Earl McConnell Foundation, the personal and professional qualities of the recipient should resemble those that Thomas Jefferson considered essential to the intellectual, social, and political advancement of society.

As the 2013 recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Award, I serve as the Chair of the 2015 Selection Committee. The committee is seeking nominations for the 2015 honoree.  The Jefferson Award Selection Committee consists of the Chair, along with the previous three winners of the award.

The recipient has traditionally been selected for service performed at Emory University over many years that goes above and beyond a job description.  The award recognizes distinguished service in several of the following areas:  (1) teaching; (2) research and scholarship; (3) contributions to student life; (4) advancement and development in relation to the entire university or an area, school or division; (5) community or educational service on the local, state, national or international level.  The recipient should also demonstrate exemplary personal and professional integrity. For more information about the award’s history and a list of previous recipients please visit: http://provost.emory.edu/faculty/Awards/TJAward.html.

Any University employee may make a nomination by sending an original letter of nomination and the nominee’s CV or resume.  The nomination letter should be directed to the attention of the Chair and Members of the Jefferson Award Selection Committee.

Please send nomination letters and CVs to Tom Jenkins by e-mail, Thomas.jenkins@emory.edu

The deadline for 2014-2015 nominations is 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2015.

Nominations are retained in active status for one year.

Sincerely,

Nadine J. Kaslow, PhD, ABPP
