FY17 Federal Fringe Rates Available Now!

We have received approval for our FY17 federal fringe rates from DHHS.  The table below represents the university’s finalized fringe benefit rates for fiscal year 2017. For any proposals already created and in routing, if prepared with the old rate, the proposal may be submitted with old rate if the deadline is approaching. Departments, schools, and the RAS units should be aware that the new fringe rate will be applied to award and rebudgeting from other expenses may be necessary. If a proposal using the old rate is currently routing to OSP and the RAS unit wishes to update the rate to reflect the new fringe rate, please work directly with your OSP analyst to update the proposal and the EPEX record.

The rate table can be found on the OSP Website at http://osp.emory.edu/facts/fac-rates.html.   The rates above are effective as of Sept. 1, 2016 and should now be used in all grant proposals. The official signed agreement from DHHS is also now available on our website at http://osp.emory.edu/documents/fac/Emory_fringe_rate_agreement_08_11_2016.pdf.

Please note that beginning on as of Sept. 1, 2014, accrued vacation payouts for terminated employees will be are paid from the fringe pool rather than paid out from an employee’s final payroll distribution.  Under no circumstances should a sponsored award paying full fringe benefits incur this as a separate charge.  More information regarding this can be accessed at  https://scholarblogs.emory.edu/ranews/2014/09/02/process-change-in-accrued-vacation-payouts-in-grants/.

Please note that effective December 1, 2016, overtime pay for persons earning $47,476 or less is now required by the US Department of Labor’s Fair Labor Standards Act.  For more information on this, please visit http://www.hr.emory.edu/eu/flsa-changes/index.html.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding these new rates, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Thank you.
