Do You Have Chemical Waste?

Do you have chemical waste? You can enter to win a prize!

  1. Check how your chemical waste is stored. The Satellite Accumulation Area (SAA), the storage area where your laboratory keeps chemical waste, should meet the following requirements:
  • Closed – All chemical waste containers must remain closed except at the moment the container is being filled.
  • Contents Identified – Content must be identified. Please use labels provided by EHSO including the EHSO Hazardous Waste Label and corresponding GHS hazard class pictogram(s).
  • Container Integrity – Chemical waste containers must be compatible with the contents and the container must be in good condition. Please use chemical waste containers provided by EHSO, which can be requested on our website at www.ehso.emory.edu by clicking the Waste Collection icon.
  • Liquid chemical waste containers should be stored in secondary containment and stored away from sinks or other drains.

     2. Does your chemical waste meet these requirements?

    • Send us a picture!

Do you need to make any changes to meet these requirements?

    • Send us a before and after picture!

Send pictures of your Satellite Accumulation Area (SAA) to biosafe@emory.edu by Monday, April 19th and you will be entered in a contest to win a prize. Winners will be announced in the next Research Safety Update.

Properly storing your waste is important in preventing spills and chemical exposures. It is also verified during EHSO assessments and can be potentially audited by an external regulatory agency.
