What goes on in your mind when you listen to the south Indian artform of Carnatic Music, whether as a seasoned listener or a novice? How does your attention move among the various elements involved—the drone, melody, words, rhythm, private daydream? What experiences could a different style of attention unlock? The event begins with an interactive exploration of such questions. It concludes with a live performance of Carnatic Music, by Shiv Subramaniam (vocal), Sruti Sarathy (violin), and Akshay Anantapadmanabhan (mridangam, a two-headed south Indian drum).
