The Archives Research Program is offering graduate research training in archives and special collections this fall break, with applications due by September 28th
Using the Unique is an intensive, two-day research training program intended for Humanities and Social Science graduate students. Over the course of two days, it will train students to understand the processing, arrangement and description of archival collections; read a finding aid; locate archival repositories and collections; and more. Sessions are taught by MARBL archivists and Woodruff librarians.
This fall’s workshop will take place on Monday, Oct. 13 and Tuesday Oct. 14, from 9:00 am – 4:00 in Woodruff Library and Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library (MARBL) spaces.
The workshop will be led by Erica Bruchko, Humanities Librarian, Woodruff Library; Gabrielle M. Dudley, Instruction Archivist & QEP Librarian, MARBL; Courtney Chartier, Head of Research Services, Christopher Pollette, Outreach and Emerging Technologies Librarian.
The program will only admit 10-15 student participants.
In addition to valuable training, the student will also get a letter for their dossier upon successful completion of program.
This is the fourth year that ARP training has been offered at Emory. The Archives Research Program (ARP) takes a very practical approach, training students to:
- Understand the processing, arrangement, and description of archival collections
- Read a finding aid
- Locate archival repositories and collections
- Handle archives and rare books properly
- Prepare for visits to archives
- Become aware of technology and tools to save time and promote productivity in the archives
The Archives Research Program (ARP) is a collaborative initiative of the Robert W. Woodruff Library, the Manuscript, Archives & Rare Book Library (MARBL) and the Laney Graduate School. The primary goal is to equip students with the basic skills necessary to begin archival research in United States archives. ARP strives to build interdisciplinary learning community among graduate students through intensive training related to finding archives, research planning and proper stewardship of rare materials.
