The Oxford Bibliographies Online (OBO) is an excellent place to begin your research, or to check for important sources (books, articles, book chapters) that you might have missed. With collections of annotated resources compiled by panels of scholarly experts, each bibliography is is selective rather than comprehensive and offers a pared-down list of the best reads on any given author or subject.
To find the OBO, search Databases@Emory for <Oxford Bibliographies>.
Each entry begins with an introduction to the historical and scholarly background of your subject. The entry is then broken into sections, each section introduced by a short paragraph which contextualizes the entries – 50 to 100 of them, each one concisely annotated.
Subject modules are heavily humanistic (very little sciences), and include African studies, American literature, anthropology, art history, Atlantic history, Biblical studies, British and Irish literature, Buddhism, Chinese studies, classics, criminology, ecology geography, Hinduism, Islamic studies, Jewish studies, medieval studies, music, philosophy, the Renaissance and Reformation, sociology and Victorian literature
