Get a peek into the world of preservation, archives, and research at the Emory Libraries session “Archives: Sites of Memory, History and Reflection” at the Decatur Book Festival on Sunday, Sept. 2, 3:45-4:30 p.m. at the Marriott Conference Center C in downtown Decatur.
The panel discussion, moderated by Rose Library curator of African American collections Pellom McDaniels III, will feature Rose Library archivists Sarah Quigley and Dorothy Waugh and Emory Libraries assistant conservator Julie Newton on the processes of preserving archival materials and making them available for research. The festival and sessions are open to the public at no charge.
Visitors to the Emory Libraries and Rose Library tables at the Emory University tent, on East Ponce de Leon Avenue near Clairemont, can pick up information on upcoming events and exhibitions. Children and adults alike can sit in the Emory tent to take part in the perennially popular Emory Libraries art activity—coloring handheld fans (useful for keeping cool in the Southern heat).
Emory University has become a presenting sponsor of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival, making it the second largest sponsor of the nation’s biggest independent book festival. For many years, the university has sponsored and participated in the annual Labor Day event, which this year will be held Friday, Aug. 31 through Sunday, Sept. 2, in downtown Decatur.
