Gigantic vinyl give-away, Sept. 3–10

Vinyl give-away September 3rd through 10th

The Music and Media library is having a gigantic vinyl give-away Sept. 3–10. There will be over 1500 33 1/3-speed LP records up for grabs. These records were part of a large gift, some of which the library decided not to add to the collection. They are mostly classical records from the 1950s–70s, but there are a few rock and jazz albums, also. Please bring your own bag(s).

Emory has a large lending vinyl collection (and other music)

The library is also using the event to publicize our own large vinyl collection and a change in our lending policies. Emory has approximately 6500 vinyl titles, which you can find in DiscoverE (look for call numbers that begin with “DISC”), and are over the next several years going to be adding about 2000 more titles, some brand new. This is in addition to more than 23,000 CDs in our collection, many of which are not available on streaming services. Our recent audio collecting has focused on music made by people from Atlanta and Georgia. And speaking of streaming services, Emory also access to 150,000 streaming albums through Naxos and Alexander Street Press—you just need to authenticate!

Change in loan period for Emory vinyl

Previously, our vinyl was only available for in-house 3-hour checkout. Now, our LPs can be checked out for 3 days for undergraduates and 7 days for faculty and staff (with one renewal). This is the same lending period we have for most of our DVDs.

But what if I don’t have a turntable at home?

No problem! The Music and Media library has two professional turntables in the public areas, one a classic Technics and the other a brand new Audio-Technica. These turntables have detailed instructions posted if it is your first time playing vinyl. Starting this Fall, we will also be offering a portable turntable, the Numark PT01USB, for 7-day checkout.
