Want to expand your music collection for free?
The Music and Media Library is having a huge vinyl giveaway Sept. 6–15. There will be over 7,500 LP records (33 1/3-speed) up for grabs, as well as more than 1,000 CDs. They are mostly classical music records, but there are a few rock and jazz albums. Please bring your own bag(s).
The giveaway is a great way to expand your musical tastes, and as music librarian Peter Shirts said, “Not everything is available through streaming services.” Vinyl records and their covers also make great room decorations, he added.
Don’t have a turntable? The library has two on-site turntables and two portable turntables that can be checked out for seven days.
New items will be added throughout the giveaway. Some music scores and books will also be available.
The giveaway will be held in the Music and Media Library, on the Woodruff Library’s 4th floor above the front entrance, during regular Music and Media Library hours. The giveaway is open to the public.
The bulk of the giveaway, which contains materials that were not added to the Music and Media Library’s collection, is from a gift of the late William Hall, a friend of Emory.
