Inaugural Sophomore NY Trek

BBA Sophomore TrekEvery year BBA juniors trek up to New York City to visit banks on Wall Street. This past year, we had a record 15 stops with 70 students in attendance. The overwhelming feedback from our juniors was that the trip was extremely helpful, but they wished they had more information sooner.

So, in typical Goizueta B-school style, we decided to fix that issue immediately. After a few emails and phone calls, the BBA Career Management Center (CMC) put together the inaugural “Goizueta BBA CMC Boot camp in NYC “. When we conceived of the idea, we were hoping for maybe 4-5 alumni presenters and 20 students in attendance. Thanks to our tremendous alumni and unbelievably eager student body, we had 21 alumni presenters representing 8 banks and an audience of over 50 students!

The point of the day was for students to gain information in three areas:

  • What are the different jobs a recent grad can get on Wall Street, besides investment banking?
  • What do people in those jobs actually DO, particularly investment bankers!
  • What is the culture like in the different firms?

Feedback from students indicated that they gained knowledge in all three areas and now feel much more prepared to start getting ready for junior year internship interviews. Students felt they really got to know the personalities of each bank and had a good idea of what future opportunities they would like to pursue.

As with almost everything we do in the BBA CMC we need to thank our alumni and recruiting partners at the following firms for this fantastic new event: Bank of America, Blackrock, BMO, BNP Paribas, Citi, Houlihan Lokey, HSBC and Morgan Stanley. A very special thank you to our BNP Paribas partners for hosting us for the entire day and for making us a core school this year! We cannot wait to repeat this event next year, and hope to double both the number of students attending and the banks represented.
