I joined a team of field biologists from the California Department of Public Health on routine plague surveillance in the Sierra Nevadas near Truckee, California. Over the course of three days I learned how to set and bait rodent traps at campsites and saw how captured rodents are processes  for data collection and safely released back into their habitat. This was invaluable insight into how the surveillance data I am using for my dissertation is collected and bolstered the collaborative relationship I have with CDPH scientists.
