Based on feedback we received this semester, TLT will be extending term conclusion dates for Canvas courses starting in Spring 2018 to better align with the university’s academic calendar. Students will now lose access to their courses on the semester Date of Record several weeks into the following semester (ignoring summer), while faculty will lose edit capabilities at the following semester’s End of Term date.
For spring 2018 courses:
- Students will lose access on Sept. 19, 2018.
- Faculty will be unable to edit their course after Dec. 22, 2018.
For fall 2018 courses:
- Students will lose access on Feb. 6, 2019.
- Faculty will be unable to edit their course after May 13, 2019.
Additional things to note:
- These dates are defaults – faculty can easily override them in the settings for an individual course
- These dates will give greater leeway for incompletes to be finalized
- These dates are longer than they have been in previous semesters. Aligning Canvas terms to the official Date of Record and End of Term dates gives us a clearer message to both students and faculty
- We have added these dates to the faculty End of Semester checklist, along with instructions on how faculty can override the default dates if they choose.
