Women of Wikipedia Editathon on Feb. 25!

Edit Wikipedia for the greater good!

For the 5th year in a row, Emory University Libraries and Teaching and Learning Technologies Women screaming EDITwill host a Wikipedia Editathon to improve coverage of women on Wikipedia and to empower new editors.

According to Women in Red (WiR), as of February 2020, only 18.25% of English Wikipedia’s biographies were about women, and many of them are incomplete. Let’s change that!WiR logo

What’s an edithaton?

It’s where we gather together to add citations and facts to Wikipedia articles. In this case, we’re focusing on notable women in any field in honor of Social Justice Day.

Faculty, take note!

Please consider attending and, if you have a moment, pass this info on to your students. Editing Wikipedia is a great way for students to learn about information quality, practice citing sources, and participate in online publishing and the creation of knowledge. Some instructors even offer participation in editathons as extra credit.
