Getting back to school during a pandemic has already been quite a ride—full of ups, downs, and unexpected twists and turns. And undergraduate classes don’t meet until later this week.
If you are trying to figure out the best way to take attendance in your Fall course, we have posted video demonstrations of 3 ways to take attendance with Zoom and Canvas, the technology you already plan to use in your class this Fall.
- You can use Zoom session reports (PDF) to see who’s attended. This four-step process is probably the most straightforward solution for large, fully virtual classes.
- Canvas has a built-in roll call attendance tool that allows instructors to manual record who is present. This might be the simplest solution if you are teaching a small face-to-face or discussion class.
- You can also create a series of quizzes to ensure your students are attending class. The benefit of using quizzes is its flexibility: you can do knowledge checks, give credit for attendance and participation, or get student feedback with this method.
