The highlights for October 2024 are improvements to New Quizzes moderation options and student result view settings, Announcement posted date display, and Discussions navigation.
There are three updates to New Quizzes (NQ) scheduled in the product release on Saturday, October 19th.
- To add time for an attempt in progress, teachers may open the NQ Moderate tab and click the pencil icon at the ride side of the student’s row.
- To adjust course-level accommodations for a student, a teacher may open the NQ Moderate tab and click the student’s name. (This feature is not new, but the link location has changed. This change appears already to be in effect as of this post’s publication.)
- When the NQ Settings tab’s “Hide results from students” toggle (previously labeled “Restrict student result view”) and the “Show questions” toggle are enabled, teachers may schedule when NQ will show and/or hide students’ responses to questions. Teachers may further specify when NQ will show and/or hide the indication of the correctness of students’ response(s) and (if a separate box is checked) the correct response(s). (Students could also infer whether their response is correct when points awarded & points possible – both have toggles – are shown.)
Please note: the are no scheduling options under the “Show feedback” toggle. When “Show feedback” is enabled, NQ shows general feedback to students when the “Show questions” toggle is enabled even if the “Show student responses” toggle is disabled. NQ also shows students answer-specific feedback for multiple choice questions even if the “Show student responses” toggle is disabled. Neither of these behaviors seems obvious or intuitive to me. By contrast, NQ shows or hides questions’ correct feedback & incorrect feedback according to the schedule for showing and/or hiding the indication of correctness.

There are updates for Announcements and Discussions scheduled in the code deploy on Wednesday, October 23rd.
- Students see announcements’ posted date / available from date, and they will see the last edited date when it is after the posted date. Teachers see created date, posted date, and last edited date for announcements.
- Teachers can go directly to a discussion’s edit page by choosing Edit from its triple-dot options menu in the Discussions list.
