Career advice from a 2L

From Nick Barker 2L:
After months of networking, researching employers, fine tuning applications, and preparing for interviews, I was fortunate to join a large law firm as a 1L summer associate.

An essential component of my recruitment journey was seeking out guidance from students, attorneys, and the Career Center. In the months before OCI, I connected with 2L and 3L students who had interned for my desired employers. I asked about practice areas, workplace culture, interview tips, and return offers for interns. I also joined a local bar association’s mentoring program, which paired me with an attorney who provided valuable recruitment insight.

During OCI, I consulted frequently with my Career Center advisor for feedback on my strategy and decision-making. The guidance I received from all of these individuals was crucial to my success in recruiting. I encourage incoming 1Ls to lean on members of the Emory Law community as they begin their own recruitment journeys!
