Journal 9 – Jackson Schneider

For my final project on pinkwashing, I am thinking of presenting my material in the form of an op-ed. My target audience will be the people who are most susceptible to pinkwashing: educated liberal allies to the LGBT community. Many straight coastal elites are unable to distinguish between genuine support and pinkwashing as a smokescreen for illiberal regimes to garner international support and corporations to profit off of the good intentions of LGBT allies. The three generic conventions I will be employing are: a strong central argument supported with rhetorical devices, links to other credible sources for my audience to learn more about the issue, and an accessible (perhaps even conversational) style that strikes a balance between making my op-ed compelling and readable without talking down to a well-educated audience.
