Reading Journal: Prompt 11 Joe Byun

Since we had discussions about intersectionality with its effects of different aspects of sexuality viewed from gender and race, I would like to explore books from James Baldwin like Giovanni’s Room and Gertrude “Ma” Rainey “Prove It on Me” that have these contexts. When we read about the concepts of disidentification as well with the context of James Baldwin’s text in Jose Esteban Muñoz’s paper, it struck me that how this perspective of a minority performance and the other pieces would help make me understand other instances why disidentifications happen. It would also help if other texts can be found that illustrate identity questioning. There is mention for people who don’t “fit” like biracial people or demonstration in which there are lower levels of autonomy because it is hard time for them to be explored, so that would show other parts of identities to consider.
