Reading Journal 14 – Gabrielle Stearns

Prior to this semester, I thought of reading as exclusively text-based. I understood that text could suggest images, metaphor, and other sensory experiences, but I primarily thought of words on a page. I now understand that anything that transmits ideas can be read. Reading is more of an analysis than comprehension. Queerness can be read in anything that deviates from the norm. In a world of so many diverse people and forms of expression, there is so little that fits into a category of “normal” so just about everything can be read as queer.
