Reading Journal 11 – Gabrielle Stearns

I am very interested in journalism, so I would have like to read and analyze more news articles and broadcasts. We did this a little bit when we looked at headlines, but I would have loved a deeper dive. I read a New York Times article a few weeks ago about three different trans adolescents and their experiences with hormone replacement therapies (I’m not linking the article because as I’m writing this, the New York Times is on a one-day strike and I don’t want to cross the picket line by going to their website and finding a link, but it should be easy to google!). I saw a few analyses of this article on TikTok discussing how the writer talked about trans people, the biases that were very present in the article, and how it could better portray the thoughts and opinions of the people who were interviewed. I think it would be really interesting to do an activity like that in this class.
