For my final research project, I have chosen ‘homosexuality and the DSM’. My format is going to be a video (or two) with audio over it. I plan to use a software like TikTok to display images to better visualize the historical context of my topic and I am going to speak over the video which is where most of the content of my presentation will be. I imagine my audience to be TikTok users interested in the history of homosexuality and its evolution from its designation as a disorder to more progressive definitions all seen through the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). I want to treat my project as if my audience is not aware of this history, so I am going to make my delivery as simplistic and comprehensive as possible. Three generic conventions of TikTok are short videos (under 3 minutes), casual language, and audios over the videos. Since I use TikTok often, it wasn’t necessary to research generic conventions.
